Child's Art Easel

This piece was commissioned for a birthday gift for a 2-year old child.  While the legs are each 52" long, as erected, the resulting "A-Frame" has an overall height of 50".  Each work surface (approx. 24" square) can be set to any one of three heights in 6" steps (shown here at the lowest which is 30" from the floor to the center of the surface).  The surface shown is a "dry-erase" white board primarily intended for the attachment of paper (with tape or spring clips) for Tempra painting.  Hence the six paint cups shown.
The opposite work surface is a black board with a sheet steel surface allowing the usual chalk for drawing and writing and magnetic characters.  Also, magnetic clips and hooks can be use on this surface to hang pictures or whatever.

The chalk tray (approx. 4" front-to-back and 2 1/2" high) is made of Maple on the front and back with Mahogany ends and fabricated with box joints (a.k.a. "finger joints).  The type of joint was selected for its strength and the woods were selected for the bright color contrast in the corners to catch the child's artist eye.  Because this easel is intended for a young child even though it is foldable it locks open with rigid swing arms backed by safety chains.

In this photo one can see the arm locked in its storage position where it won't swing around while moving the easel to storage once it is folded.

Size:
Approx. 24 inches wide
Approx. 30 1/2 inches deep
Approx. 50 inches high
