Karissa's Graduation
 |
This is a
collaborative work with a very talented lady and dear friend,
Jane Burke.
She and my lovely wife, Grace, came up with the marquetry design for the
lid. This jewelry box is our gift to our niece, Karissa upon her graduation
from Wake Forest University. |
| Karissa is not only a
beautiful young lady and outstanding student, she is also a talented
violinist and world traveler. Hence the world map "reflection" on the face
of the violin. |

|

 |
In keeping with the theme of a world traveler I domed the lid (cold-molded 9
plys of maple veneer), hand carved "rope" handles in maple and made wood
hinges of maple to suggest an old-fashioned steamer trunk. The body of the
box is made of Kurupay, a very hard wood which will turn a deep wine red a
few months after these pictures were taken, and with Guatambu accent
stripes, an equally hard wood which will remain the honey yellow shown here |
| For the inside of the
lid I choose this beautiful Redwood burl. The top tray and top drawer
have "egg crate" dividers (also made of Kurupay) for ring and ear ring
storage. |

|

|
Although one would not
normally have all of the drawers open at once this does show the "egg crate"
divider in the top drawer and illustrates the graduated drawer heights
(shallowest at top to deepest at bottom). Size:
Approx. 34.29cm (13 1/2 inches) wide
Approx. 29.21cm (11 1/2 inches) deep
Approx. 22cm (8 3/4 inches) high |
