My background explains why I am interested in so
many different things. My father was a career military pilot (he and my mother
were at Pearl Harbor during the infamous attack) and my father’s mother
was a civilian contract flight instructor during World War II teaching Army and
Navy cadets to fly. Furthermore, my older brother, my step-mother and both of
her parents were serious military and/or civilian aviators. It’s no surprise that I am an instrument rated commercial
pilot. My father was always building and repairing everything (houses, boats,
cars, planes, etc.) so it’s also no surprise that I am a patent holding
inventor and engineer with a professional level shop for working wood, metal,
glass, stone, etc. There is no question, I am my father’s son!
My work, primarily in wood, is known for precision and I often make my own
custom hardware demanded by some of my original designs. I work in gold
and silver inlaying, sculpting precious metal handles, and I silver plate the
solid brass hardware wherever it's appropriate. I am equally comfortable welding
(there are three different welding technologies in my shop) or machining metals
or sand blasting art into glass.
My wife, Grace, is not only my best critic, business manager
and light of my life, she is also a great source of ideas and often helps me
solve those pesky problems associated with custom designs. We enjoy
traveling in our restored 1947 Stinson 108-1 airplane. We have that
particular make and model because my grandmother purchased one new right after
the war and it was the first plane I flew in at the age of 3.
Some of my other interests are: reading, amateur radio (I hold an Extra Class
license), music listening, writing (I have published numerous magazine
articles), teaching (see "Classes" page), and giving public presentations.
My work is collected internationally and many pieces have won ribbons
including First Place and Best of Show in juried competitions. I am a
member of the American Craft Council, the National Association of Independent
Artists and the Wood Workers Guild of Georgia.
It is my sincere hope you enjoy visiting my web site. Thanks for
