This small gift box is a combination of
traditional wood working with marquetry, wood and precious metal inlays
and silver sculpture. It was made for a lady who loves blue
birds. It is solid Purpleheart wood with the lid marquetry framed by
pure silver inlay. I sculpted the handle from sterling silver in the form
of a small leaf.
Using the same pink veneer I used as the background for
the marquetry I inlaid a boot stripe around the lower part of the body of
the box.
The inside is lined with purple velveteen
fabric.
I silver plated the solid brass stop
hinges to complete the theme of silver and purple.
